I have replaced the classical FAQs with a "Did you know..." section where I casually post eBay tips when they occur and if they have enough useful meaning, with a short and to the point explanation.
I think this is more useful than playing with silly imaginary questions!
This is the solution to continue to sell Digital Products on eBay after March 31 2008

"It's not the sword that wins the battle. It's the warrior who's wielding."
Changes on eBay as of March 312008.
The year 2008 will remain in eBay history as year of changes and re-inventing eBay. At the beginning of 2008 we got drastic changes which produce turmoil in eBay forums. The new team of eBay is not treating equally buyers and sellers; it is a clear inclination on the buyer part.
Hello eBay! my opinion is eBay will remain a growing company with happy buyers and sellers. Close your eyes for a second and try to imagine how the eBay world will be only with buyers, and all sellers run away.
Ok! This morning around 8 AM I was on my desk with a coffee in frond of me. I always start my day with looking over my messages… and a title has caught my attention. “Digital Items Banned On eBay” I look to the author, it was the king of Digital Products, I person I trust, respect and learn a lot from. If would be other person, I probably delete the e-mail thinking that is SPAMING.
I have read his message and I have discovered that is true. Starting 31 March 2008, eBay ban the Digital Products, everything which need a digital delivery. This means all products and services delivered electronically:
eBooks
Audio - MP3
Digital Videos
Websites
Graphic Design Services
Photo Services
Domain Names Services
Any other services which need to be delivered electronically
In eBay announcement (just 3 short paragraph) they suggested to use Classify ads for digital products, I am going to translate for you. To create a Classify ad on eBay you spend between $12.00 and $9.00, and the average e-Book prices on eBay are between $0.99 - $4.00.
Of course so many people are affected now, some loopholes will be created, I promise to keep you informed.
My personal impression is that eBay want to do now what Google did in June 2006. They want to clean up eBay of low price items.
All the best and I’ll keep you posted. Michaela
Alternative - Free Classifieds ads to sell anything!
If you have many items which didn't sell on eBay, you must know alternatives to advertise and sell. I did extensive research and this is what I recommend, and what I use myself, just click on image:
The advantages are:
you can list an item for 40 days and it is FREE, no fees for just listing
they have a text add, and 2 versions of HTML ads. I use one of those and I just cut and paste portions of HTML from my eBay listings
if you upgrade to Gold or Premium member (there is very small monthly fee for membership, not per item) and you can download max. 12 pictures as well
they will add an PayPal button at your request, which means it is a fix price, you don't have to wait 40 days to end the add.
I have listed eBooks and other items which, at this point in time, aren't selling on eBay with satisfactory prices. It is more, you give them the URL of your web site, you are allowed to put URLs in your add as well, which translates in getting mote traffic to your web site, blog, squidoo lens etc
Extra Protection for PayPal:
PayPal made incredible progress in 2007 to make our work with PayPal secure.
The PayPal Security Key is part of the effort.
This is an extra layer of security when you log in to your PayPal, it makes your account more resistant to intrusion, and it is very easy to use.
It is a small electronic device that generates a unique security code for your account about every 30 seconds.
It is like a combination lock for your account, but the combination changes at every 30 seconds, and only you know this combination.
This is how is working:
you sign in on your PayPal account as usual
at this point you will be connected with other screen in which you introduce the number you see on your PayPal key
only now you will be connected with your PayPal account
This means that a combination of 3 elements must be correct, and one of them (the key) is changing randomly every 30 seconds.
You should keep the key with you and this way you can access your account no matter where you are.
Simple Photo Studio for eBay and/or Web Sites
Photo Studio in a Box for digital camera
(Box dimentions: 16" x 16" x 16")
Super Photo Studio in a Box for digital camera
(Box dimensions: 30" x 30" x 30")
NOTE: Both are ideal for use with digital cameras. Using the adjustable camera stand and the 2 table top lights make a perfect studio ready to use.
NOTE: This is the best solution I find out for eBay and my Web Site pictures at a convenient price!
How do you close your eBay Store
One of my students ask this question, I'll publish how to do it.
Before you close your Store, you have to know that all of your current Store Inventory listings (if any) will automatically end.
Click the "My eBay" button in your eBay Toolbar
You will be prompted to sign on, do it
In My Account section in the left navigation menu, click the "Subscriptions" link
Under "Active Subscriptions" you will find your Store, in the line of your Store click the "Cancel Subscription" link
You will be prompted to sign on again (for protection, you have to prove that you are the owner of the Store), do it
Click the YES button.
Sometime you need to close the Store because you change the Service Provider or you want to completely redesign the eBay Store. It is easy to close it and reopen one vs. sitting and manually delete all your auctions in the Store... there are people with 2000 - 4000 items in the Store, this way with a couple of clicks you end all your auctions.
Tax tips for eBay Seller - Kristine McKinley
I have had a lot of questions about Taxes - Well, I am not an expert on this matter, but I recommend you an expert, Kristine McKinley.
This is not an eBay tip, but is a surviving note for Internet Marketing!
Some of us can soon receive a note from Google: "you have an unsuitable business model” and the account will be closed in 2 weeks!
I just want to inform you, this is Google's content "Quality Initiative", they are working on this right now, and a lot of people will be heart in the process.
Why? Google are in the favor of relevant content vs. just web sites with 99% ad links and no content. Google is trying to change the Internet Culture, and is drawing the line again, I think in the long run it is a good move in the favor of Internet quality!
I think we should be part of it, each of us must play a role, and all of us must contribute as much as we can. YES, the Internet must offer quality, relevancy, real content, we cannot argue with the concept.
If you want to keep your account on Google AdSense open:
you need to focus on original content that people want to read
you have to update your website frequently
you have to be creative
Treat Google AdSense as an opportunity not as a given, and is always your job to make the opportunity work in your favor. Make you content relevant and your AdSense account will stay open.
Digital Delivery of Information Products: eBooks, VIDEOS...
I was looking for a while to find an instant Delivery Software for eBooks, and finaly I got exactly what I want!
You simply cannot use manualy URL delivery for an Info-Prod. If during the night when I am at sleep, a customer buy an eBook from my eBay Store using BIN button, the best time I can manually deliver the download URl is after 6 hours or after 10 hours, if this is the difference in time my customer will open my email next day! This is not acceptable, using BIN, customers expect an instant delivery of the URL for download.
"My Delivery Dispatch (MyDD)" is an eBook Delivery Software technology, which allows you to totally automate the delivery process of your info-products and organize your customers into an easy to use DataBase. Personally, when I want to buy an eBook, I am looking to see if it is an "instant delivery" mentioned, if it is not, I go to the next eBayer!, The same will happend to you as well, if you cannot promise an instant delivery.
Using MyDD Software you:
Build a list of hungry prospects & Follow up
Build Credibility
Create a Residual Income
You Know all your Customers by name
You will get Digital Product Security
The whole system (software) takes 2 minutes to install
No button encryption is necessary
Instant follow-up
And much more features:
You can have Unlimited Products to sell
Unlimited Email Messages
Transaction Log
Easy to use Administration Panel
Error Logging
Adjusts to any supported currency
Emails you each time an item is sold and sent
the most important works with eBay like a charm, and more...
This is why I highty recommend to you MyDD Software.
Changes in Seller Ratings – The good old Feedback, will never be the same!
eBay have decided to do some significant changes to the current Feedback System in two areas:
the Feedback Profile page
the Leave Feedback flow
The reasons are to:
improve a buyer’s ability to accurately rate a transaction
differentiate the best sellers from the crowd
add a new dimension to eBay’s online reputation
The new feedback system will allow buyers to rate transactions based on:
item description
communication
shipping time
shipping and handling price
The rating will be based on a 1 - 5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest rating.
Also
the average of all ratings will be displayed on the seller’s Feedback Profile page
the transaction’s item title and price will be visible below the Feedback comment for 90 days after the feedback is left
a separator within the Feedback Comments area will appear to separate the items in the first 90 days and items after 90 days
I think the new features will boost customer confidence, the good work of the best sellers will be rewarded, and will help there good reputation stand out at a glance.
Doors2Stores Shopping Mall
You have probably noticed the "Why shop eBay Stores?" image in some listings (including mine) and never had the time to dig out and find the meaning of it. I’ll explain it in a nutshell:
Click here to learn about eBay Stores and the top quality stores proudly participating in Doors2Stores
Sellers have always complained that
Ebay Stores aren’t visible enough
they have to indirectly find ways to advertise the Stores
cross references at the end of listing are not enough
to buy packages that do this is expensive ...
Two energetic eBay Sellers have created the perfect solution – A Shopping Mall called Doors2Stores.
In this Shopping Mall you‘ll find a concentration of eBay Stores in just one place, or you can also find and shop in individual Stores that you can bookmark or add to your eBay favorites, and that is available to you whenever you come to eBay to Shop.
Don’t limit yourself to eBay auction and BIN items because you are missing out on the best eBay has to offer.
To join with your own Store to Doors2Stores Shopping Mall, you must click on the image above, read everything and if you like it, click on the link to join Doors2Stores. Your Store will be revised and approved to be part of the Doors2Store Mall and will be in Doors2Stores in the next 2-3 weeks.
The beauty of Doors2Stores is:
eBay approved the creation of Doors2Stores and the problem of visibility was solved in a very elegant way
It is FREE to join!
Some eBay features were extended to work with Doors2Stores as well (the best example is: an item you win in live auction or BIN can be combined with a seller Store item and this will save you time and shipping costs)
It is also educational as, if you have a sloppy Store, you will be encouraged by competition within the Mall to work on the design and functionality of your own Store.
My advice is – Go for it! You have nothing to loose and a lot to gain.
eBay the "Best Offer"
When you list items on eBay, some of them are selling, others don’t. You re-list items that don’t sell, and once again some of them are selling, others don’t .Usually after listing an item twice, you decide to put it in the eBay Store (if you have one). You re-list changing the Format from Auction to Store Inventory, and choose Duration 30 days, or GTC (Good ‘Till Cancelled). Sounds familiar?
A good trick to encourage people to bid is to create your listings with “the Best Offer” option; buyers can offer a price they are willing to pay for that item. You have a couple of choices listed below and if you accept the listing will close and the buyer will have to pay the offered price.
Note:The Best Offer feature is available for listings in the Fix Price (Buy it Now) and Classified Ad (only in certain categories).
Once a Buyer makes a Best Offer, you have a couple of options:
Accept the Best Offer and close the listing
Respond with a counter-offer
Decline the Best Offer and tell the buyer why the offer was rejected
Allow the offer to expire on its own in 48 hours
How to offer “The Best Offer” in your list:
Go to the “Selling format” section in the Sell Your Item form
Select the check box for Best Offer
Like other goodies on eBay you have to be qualified to accept “The Best Offer” on listings:
You must have a feedback rating of 10 or more or be ID Verified
To create a listing with a quantity larger then 1 and Best Offer, you must have a feedback rating of 30 or more, and be a registered user for at least 14 daysor ID Verified
How you submit your Best Offer:
Find a list that accepts Best Offers
Click the “Submit best Offer” link, or the “Make Offer” button, in the listing
Enter your Best Offer price
Enter an optional message to the seller in a Message text field
Review the terms at the bottom of the page, select the checkbox, and click the Continue button
Review the information on the Review and Commit Best Offer page, and then click Commit Best Offer button
The Shipping cost of the items with Best Offer is not negotiable; there is a technique of including shipping in Best Offer. In some cases the buyers are using Best Offer because the Shipping is not reasonable and the overall price is not acceptable.
The Checklist to get started as a Seller on eBay
1. Register with eBay, create UserID, Password
2. Open a seller account.
3. Open an PayPal account, do the “verify” as well
4. Fill in preferences for both:
Seller Account
PayPal
5. Create the “About Me” page. The “My world” page was been added in 2006 and a lot of functionality has been was created for it. Both are optional, but it is good to have them for advertising yourself, your business, your Web Site, and to build trust. People will begin to know you through the “About me Page” and “My World Page”.
6. Download the eBay toolbar – it is free
Always look to see if Account Guard is green
Always look at your messages through eBay, not through Outlook or other SP
7. Download TurboLister, a free eBay software. The benefits include pre-designed listings templates with a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) description editor and you can reuse the templates
8. Decide where your pictures will reside. Initially I suggest eBay Picture Manager for a while.
9. Buy your digital camera:
Buy a brand name, as this way you will get a compatible editing software
4.0 megapixels or better
Macro – ability to focus 1 inch from surface
Ability to turn flash off
10. Buy wrap materials, it is cheaper on eBay
11. Order your free boxes from USPS
Now you can start to be a Seller!
The sky is the limit! Good luck!
Note:
After you are an established seller/buyer on eBay you can sophisticate your eBay activities:
Start to sell items of value (after 100 positive feedbacks the buyers will trust you!)
Open an eBay store
Learn how to market yourself on eBay
Learn to use eBay tools effectively.
What are a Blog, an Audio Blog. Why we need them!
Think about a Blog as an online journal wherein you can casually write
your thoughts
ideas
opinions
practically anything that you want people to read
Blog is short for the term weblog. Blogs come in different styles, formats, and settings, depending on the preference of the user. The majority of blogging sites, offer built in features such as hyperlink, texts, pictures etc.
Some bloggers choose to make their blogs more audio friendly, by using spoken word entries, instead of writing texts. This is called audio blogging.
We need them because it is a eazy way to comunicate, Blogs are Free, Blogs can produce traffic to your websites.
I recommend using http://Blogger.com which is owned by Google so you have a better chance of getting listed on the search engines.
An eBay Seller's Checklist.
Now you are a seller and... Being a seller requires a lot of responsibility, and sometimes you might feel like you're not doing everything you should. This simple checklist will help you keep on top of things.
Have you found out everything you possibly could about your items? Try typing their names into a search engine - you might find out something you didn't know. Always try to provide more information about it than they do.
Do you monitor the competition? Always keep an eye on how much other similer items are selling, and what prices they're being offered.
Have you got pictures of the items? It's worth taking the time to photograph your items, especially if you have a digital camera.
Are you emailing your sellers? It's worth sending a brief email when transactions go through. You will be surprised how many problems you could be avoided just by communicating with potential buyers.
Also, are you checking your emails? Remember that potential buyers can send you emails about anything at any time, and not replying would make them go somewhere else instead of buying from you.
Do your item description pages have everything that buyers need to know? If you have any special terms and conditions, then you should make sure these are displayed too.
Have you been wrapping your items correctly? Your wrapping should be professional for the best impression. Double Packing for fragile items. Always use first class post - don't be cheap.
Do you follow up? It is worth sending out an email a few days after you post an item, asking "Was everything alright with your purchase? I hope you received it and it was up to your expectation."
More than anything else, being a really good eBay seller is about providing genuinely good and honest customer service. That's the only foolproof way to protect your reputation.
Forms which aren't Opt In
I have discovered the hard way that eWeber lets you create only Opt In Forms like forms from Squeeze pages etc
If you need a Survey Form/Feedback Form or any other Form which doesn't require Opt In you have to use other Software Application.
First you may find that your host already has a system which will allow you to create Forms but if not, you can find a free service here:
